Meet Lisa Lightner

Hi! I’m Lisa Lightner.
I created Don’t IEP Alone to make sure no one has to navigate the IEP or 504 process feeling lost, overwhelmed, or unheard. Since 2010, I’ve worked as a special education advocate, helping thousands of families across the country get meaningful support for their kids.

Along the way, I’ve written a bestselling book, trained parents and professionals nationwide, testified before state legislatures, and served on the boards of several disability organizations. Everything I offer—whether it's a toolkit, course, or template—is built from real-life experience and backed by years of advocacy work.

If you're a parent looking for answers, a teacher wanting to do better for your students, or an advocate building your skills, you're in the right place. I’m here to help you find clarity, take action, and feel more confident in every IEP conversation.

What Parents and Teachers Say

"

Don't IEP Alone is a fantastic resource for those working with students on a plan, IEP and/or 504. She not only has materials that are for educators, but also for parents to learn and understand how to be the best advocate for their children of all ages. Check out her sites and see for yourself!!

I was initially writing a thank you for the coursework I purchased, but as I began typing I realized I wanted to thank you for much more than that. I have to say, you don’t just throw a life ring , it’s like someone coming in with the full power of the coast guard using boats, helicopters and a full rescue team.

I am always amazed at the quality and amount of work that has gone into Lisa's business and webpage. I am in year 30 as a SPED Teacher, and I LOVE her stuff. Keep rocking it Lisa!
